I saw "Away From Her" today. While in a few spots I thought the script was trying a little too hard, and I felt the character of the person who ran the retirement facility was one-dimensional, overall I thought it was a powerful and quite wonderful film that was as much about love and loss as about Alzeimer's. Both Julie Christie (Fiona) and Gordon Pinsent (Grant) gave stunning performances. I think the movie particularly spoke to me because of what I just went through with my dad.
I've often asked myself how one grows old with grace and with some semblance of dignity. Both Fiona and Grant show us how it's done.
